Cheap. No exciting features. Not particularly durable, and definitely not stylish. In fact, it’s an accessory we’re all told to move away from at some point in life, typically during those adolescent years searching for adulthood. “If you want to act like an adult, then start dressing and accessorizing like one” they said. “A plastic ziplock bag wallet is no way for a self respecting man, or woman to carry their cash and other essentials through life.” And so like many transitioning adults, my wallet of choice became the standard leather trifold.
Many years later however, and long past that transition line, I am convinced that we may have it all wrong. In fact, when my wallet consists of a small plastic bag, like it does for those backpack, kayak, hiking, climbing, or biking adventures where something smaller and more waterproof is desired, LIFE IS GOOD!
If anything, I’m starting to wish my adult essentials spent more time in their ziplock confines, than their more expensive, RFID blocking, brown leather home. After all, it’s usually a sign that I’m doing something that brings me great joy. It’s an innocent return to that youthful joy that comes with adventure and exploration.
So, cast your parents’ advice aside (we’re guessing this won’t be the first time), and bring back those adventure filled, plastic wallet days!
